Shop Around the Rock!

When you are thinking about where to do your shopping this year, think Round Rock!  When you shop with local merchants, the sales tax stays at home—working for you!  Here’s how:

Ž A portion of local sales taxes are dedicated to reducing property tax rates.  In fact, our property tax rate would be 21.5 cents higher without the sales tax provision.

Ž Another portion of sales tax revenue is dedicated to building roads.  We’ve leveraged a $100 million capital spending plan into nearly $400 million worth of road projects.

Williamson County 2nd Fastest Growing in Texas!

The Austin-Round Rock MSA grew 48% to more than 1.2 million over the past decade.  Williamson County alone soared 79% to 110,400 persons, making it the 2nd-fastest growing urban county in Texas (13th in the nation) over the past decade.  The City of Round Rock grew 6.8% annually, faster than any comparable competitor, thus making Round Rock the fastest growing city in Texas and the 9th fastest growing city in the United States with a population over 25,000!

According to the 2000 US Census, Williamson and Travis Counties have an active labor force of more than 530,000.  Central Texas’ high tech employers like Dell, Cypress Semiconductor, DuPont Photomasks, and Phototronics mean an employee pool full of educated and skilled employees.

 Texas Highway Development

What is the Central Texas Turnpike Project?  The Central Texas Turnpike Project (CTTP) will bring congestion relief to IH-35 and surrounding arterial roads in Travis and Williamson counties, as well as the Central Texas region.  Mobility and safety will be improved by providing more transportation options for commuters, businesses, and motorists.

The CTTP is being developed as a state-maintained toll facility, which includes four project elements—SH 130, SH 45 North, Loop 1, and US 183A.

Currently, TxDOT is developing the first phase of the CTTP, which includes the northern 49 miles of SH 130, SH 45 North, and Loop1.  These projects will be complete by December 2007.
